The pharmacy assistant module on smoking and vaping cessation has now launched.
Developed in partnership with the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA), our new Pharmacy Assistant module is here to meet an education need voiced by pharmacists during our consultation with health professionals.
Pharmacy assistants play a vital role in connecting patients with best practice cessation care. This training is designed to equip pharmacy assistants with the knowledge and skills they need to support optimal smoking and vaping cessation care.
It provides an overview and update on smoking and vaping cessation, increasing the ability of the staff member to respond to requests for over the counter and/or Pharmacist Only Medicines related to this topic. It provides an overview and treatment of typical smoking and vaping cessation requests a pharmacy assistant might encounter in the pharmacy setting.
It discusses assessment strategies, referral points and treatment options of smoking and vaping cessation. It outlines the most common and successful OTC medicines used for smoking and vaping cessation, and the use of medicines in combination with management and treatment strategies as well as triggers for referral to the pharmacist. The training also provides a case study to help reinforce the learning - focusing on WHAT STOP GO and Ask, Assess, Advise protocols.
